This year marks 10 years of Your Finance Team, and we wanted to celebrate the milestone in a way that reflected what’s mattered most over the last decade: people, progress, and doing the work properly.

So, instead of a traditional Christmas do, we took our very first team workcation to Marrakech. Yes, there was sunshine (a welcome change in December). But more importantly, there was space to step back, reconnect as a team, and plan how we’ll keep delivering simple, straightforward accounting and business advice for ambitious, growing businesses over the next 10 years.

1) People first isn’t a slogan

Over the last decade, one thing has become clearer every year: great client service is built on great teamwork.

When a finance team works well together, clients feel it:

  • communication is clearer
  • handovers are smoother
  • deadlines are met with less stress
  • and problems get solved faster

That’s why team time matters. Not in a forced, “corporate away day” kind of way but in a real, practical way that strengthens how we work together when things are busy.

On this trip, we focused on connection, including a trip to the Ourika Valley for fresh air, a team hike, and lunch in the mountains. It sounds simple, but shared experiences create trust, and trust improves collaboration.

2) Growth needs structure, not just effort

If there’s one lesson we’ve learned from working with ambitious business owners, it’s that growth can be exciting, but it can also be messy.

As a business scales, the finance function needs to scale with it. What worked at £200k turnover rarely works at £2m. The businesses that grow well usually have:

  • simple systems that get done consistently
  • a clear view of cashflow
  • regular reporting that informs decisions
  • and support that doesn’t disappear when things get busy

That’s why we used part of the workcation for big-picture thinking, including a strategy session to review what’s working, what needs tightening, and where we want to raise the bar next.

3) The best ideas often come when you step out of routine

Our day to day work is important, but it can also keep you stuck in reactive mode.

Stepping into a different environment gives you perspective. Marrakech did that for us in the kind of setting that naturally prompts reflection and better conversations.

And those conversations matter, because we’re not just doing accounts. We’re helping business owners make decisions with confidence, protect their cash, and build something sustainable.

4) Technology as our biggest tool

As a digital-first firm, it’s important we strike the right balance between using the best technology and building lasting human relationships. This was a key focus of our trip: to evaluate and test how we operate with technology as an enabler, while still delivering first class service remotely and with a personal touch.

During the trip, our approach was put into practice as we continued to provide high quality, tailored support, including completing an important international transaction for one of our clients.

It also gave us the chance to see the team in action: collaborating seamlessly and maintaining the standard of service we’re known for.

5) The next 10 years: doubling down on what clients value most

The businesses we support don’t want complexity. They want clarity. They want responsiveness. They want confidence in the numbers and a finance team that feels like a partner, not a provider.

Our plan for the next 10 years is simple:

  • keep improving our delivery and communication
  • keep building a team clients can rely on
  • keep making finance feel straightforward, even when business isn’t

We came home from Marrakech with fresh energy and a clear direction, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

Here’s to the next 10 years 🥂
